How I Think
Reservoir engineering is not about generating models or reports. It's about reducing uncertainty and enabling better engineering decisions.
Pressure data. Production history. Reservoir simulation. Material balance. Well testing. Production engineering. Geological understanding. Each becomes valuable only once it's integrated into a coherent engineering recommendation — not before.
That integration is the actual work. A simulation model that isn't checked against material balance is a guess with good graphics. A pressure transient analysis read in isolation from production history is half an answer. The judgement is in bringing these views together until they agree — or in understanding precisely why they don't.
Professional Path
The path from individual technical studies to team leadership has meant the work now includes reviewing other engineers' analyses as often as producing my own, mentoring engineers through their first integrated studies, and coordinating across reservoir, production, and drilling disciplines so that a technical recommendation reaching management reflects one coherent view of the reservoir rather than several disconnected ones.
